- This tool is designed for public land managers, mining companies, consultants and
contractors, and anyone else actively participating in abandoned mine closure projects.
- When you begin using the Decision Matrix Tool, you
will need adequate data on each mine opening that is being considered. These include
geographic location, wildlife use, opening size and orientation, cultural resources that
require protection and rock conditions at the opening.
- As a general rule, we discourage managing individual mines as crises develop. This
"whack-a-mole" approach is often more expensive and less effective for conservation
than a landscape-level approach that considers all resident bat populations and all
potential mine roosts in the area.
- We look forward to your feedback!
